Interpreting for Events - Your Questions, Answered
-
The main types of interpreting are:
Simultaneous: the interpreter works at the same time as the speaker is talking.
Consecutive: the speaker pauses, the interpreter speaks, then the speaker continues. This means you need to allow double the time for the session.
Whispered (chuchotage): typically used for 1–2 people, where the interpreter sits nearby and whispers the translation.
If you’re unsure, the TranslateAble team will work with you to advise on which type of interpreting will work best for your event or meeting.

All interpreters are selected based on the following essential criteria:
Language: both languages they are interpreting from and to must be at native level.
Location: we prefer to source locally, wherever possible, to support sustainability and budgets and, ensures your event positively impacts the local community.
Expertise: they must be experts in the subject matter to ensure it sounds natural to the audience.

-
We always prioritise sourcing interpreters locally. Travel costs may need to be considered if a language pair is rare in that country, if a specific interpreter is requested, or if an event is confirmed late and interpreter availability is limited for that language pair.
